Many countries, including Bangladesh, get 90-day exemption from Trump's tariffs, pressure on China increases

US President Donald Trump recently announced that the new 'retaliatory tariff' system for most countries will be suspended for three months. He told reporters at the White House on Wednesday that the countries concerned will have to pay a 10 percent tariff during this period.

However, Canada, Mexico and China have been excluded from this exemption. In particular, in the case of China, Trump has announced that the tariff rate will be increased from 104 percent to 125 percent, which is expected to further increase trade pressure on the country.

President Trump said in his speech, "It is possible to reach a fair and balanced trade agreement with all countries - that is our goal."

Meanwhile, Bangladesh welcomed the decision to suspend the tariff. “We thank President Trump for his positive response to our request for a 90-day tariff suspension,” Professor Muhammad Yunus, chief advisor to the interim government of Bangladesh, said in a post on his verified Facebook page. “We look forward to working closely with his administration.”

Analysts believe that these three months will give developing countries, including Bangladesh, an opportunity to reorganize their trade structures, which will help build sustainable trade relations in the future.
